De-cluttering is usually the first step in Staging and when that step begins, one of the most common questions I’m asked during a Home Staging Consultation is “where can I get rid of this unwanted stuff”?
We live in a land of overabundance. Therefore, a large majority of my staging consultations begin with recommendations for de-cluttering. With Home Staging comes the motto, “Less is More”.
I am not an advocate for throwing items in the trash that can be re-used, recycled or refurbished with a little TLC. Remember, your trash is another person’s treasure.
When you de-clutter your home, the “donate” pile can get rather large. Don’t fret over the idea of having to lug these unwanted items to a donation center. Below I’ve included a list of donation centers, many of which will send a truck to pick up items at your house. It can’t get any easier than that. I encourage you to view their websites or call to get a list of acceptable items and make arrangements for pick-up.
Donating is a good start and an excellent option as you begin to de-clutter and prepare to sell. Remember, de-cluttering is an important first step, but a very small part of what Home Staging includes.
